Well, my tomatoes have given their all and I lost count of the Better Boys I've given away dozens ago. Took down the plants a week ago. Great year for those and my one Roma gave me enough for 8 pints of sauce and another gallon bag for the freezer for more this winter. That was one very prolific plant. Never did get my zucchini to take, problems with too much rain mid-summer and that caused blossom end rot and I couldn't stop it with nutrients. The okra is still doing well, and will produce until first frost.

Hi, y'all. Last time I posted here was to show my teeny starter garden on Apr 27. Here it is today. Three of the Better Boys are now taller than I am and the Romas are exploding. Can't wait for that first BB to get ripe so I can enjoy it in the most basic sense...cut it, eat it over the kitchen sink like an apple with the salt shaker handy and let the juice run down my chin. YUMMM. I planted lots of zucchini because I make and sell Z-bread at a local farmer's market.

There's an image wizard? I don't see one. But I will fix my avatar.

Hey, it works! Thanks, Curt. You can click on that image to enlarge it. It's the old image source equals (your URL) html code. Be sure to put the URL of your photo in quotation marks.

Hey, y'all. My 2013 garden is 3 weeks old. Already have squash blossoms forming, and should have some baby zucchini by mid-May. Put out 3 Better Boys and 1 Roma in pots, and several (too many) okra plants. Will thin those later when I'm certain which are the strongest. I certainly don't need to supply the county with okra. Curt says we can add photos to posts now instead of links, but am uncertain I remember the html for that. ?

Can someone ID this plant? Not in my state wildflower book so it's a weed and it's growing in clumps in the newly sunny backyard. I used to know the name but have gone brain dead. Has a square stem like mint. Someone suggested lemon balm, but I'm not sure that's it.

Silly daffodils. They don't understand winter here hasn't even started yet and already I see shoots poking up. If this area gets snow it's usually in January or February.

Asparagus is the only vegetable I refuse to eat, no matter how elegantly prepared. Dunno why. Mother told me I got sick as a toddler from some canned variety. Watched Alton Brown today do an asparagus show (he has no use for the white variety) but still don't want to try it. I do, however, adore brussel sprouts.

Here's a link to the recipe from the magazine. If anything, I find key limes to be much more tart than regular limes. You can substitute regular limes, though.

Amber – That recipe for Key Lime pound cake calls for both key lime juice and zest. It was in the March 2011 issue of Southern Living magazine. A friend in Florida sends me a boxful of key limes about once a year and I juice them for the freezer.

I hear you all about the zucchini...but I love it and it makes the best bread in the world. My plan is to put in 3 seeds, no more, no less, and if one really takes off I'll just yank out the others. I have no plans to leave bags of the stuff on neighbors' doorsteps in the middle of the night.

I didn't know Curt had created a garden chat. How wonderful! I'm truly a novice at gardening, but after last April's tornado that took out some major trees that had shaded my backyard for years and years, I finally have a sunny spot to put a raised bed for veggies next spring. Will be asking for advice aplenty. I'm thinking tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, okra, and maybe some green beans.
